“Whoever sings, prays twice.” -St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430 CE)
Perhaps it is cliche to begin with this quote from St. Augustine. But then again, there is a reason it is used so much. As St. Augustine rightly says, the act of congregational singing is an act of corporate prayer. Writing hymns, then, is a lot like writing collects; I am writing prayers for worship. All of my hymns arise out of my personal prayer, but I trust that the Holy Spirit will use them to deepen the prayers of all of us together.
My sincere hope is that something I have written will be useful to our spiritual lives. You can access my hymns via the dropdown menu at the top of the page or at the links below. They are organized in the same way The Hymnal 1982 is organized: by season and occasion. Hymns for the Season after Pentecost include various themes. The tune and its author for each text is attributed, and I will occasionally offer alternative tunes to consider. I do not own the tunes; while many are in the public domain, not all are. You are welcome to use these hymns for public worship. All I ask is that you contact me to let me know.
